Although opening a new business is not easy, the satisfaction, advantages, and benefits it can bring, make any risk worthwhile. If you’ve ever thought about having your own coffee shop, this is your chance to make up your mind and discover a whole new world of opportunities. Are you ready for it?

Benefits of owning a coffee shop

The profits of a coffee business

The first benefit is the most elementary; however, it is the most representative in terms of trade. Clearly, to achieve this goal, it’s necessary to have a solid work team and a quality coffee supplier, such as That Coffee Roasters, that allows you to offer the best products and build customer loyalty.

Setting your own working schedule

One of the benefits of owning a coffee shop is the advantage of being able to choose your work schedule. In the case of having a family, this allows you to have more flexibility and decide on which shifts to work. However, this doesn’t mean you can disengage from work for a few hours. It’s necessary to understand that, in order for a coffee shop to thrive, you must always monitor every aspect of the business and take advantage of the busiest hours.

Creative development

Nothing beats having your own business to develop that creative and culinary talent you didn't know you had. Part of the thrill of opening a new coffee shop is to actively participate in the creation of the products that will be offered to your customers. The creation of a community

Ultimately, your coffee shop will become a gathering place where different types of customers can meet. You should always see this as an opportunity to meet new people, evaluate their tastes, and develop a sense of belonging. Usually, this type of business brings people together and gradually becomes part of the community in which it is located, thanks to the loyalty of its customers and the welcoming atmosphere of the place. In the end, you’ll be able not only to gain a permanent clientele, but you will also feel part of a large family that will embrace your coffee shop as another space in their home.

Free meals and coffee!

Actually, you better not take it that far. Remember that your products are made for sale and that your profits depend on them. However, the advantage of running your own coffee business is that you will at least have your morning cup of coffee guaranteed. Wonderful, isn’t it?

Choosing a Coffee Supplier

Coffee supplier for wholesale business
These three variables must be taken into account before choosing your coffee supplier.

As it happens in other industries, the labor market for coffee is quite broad and varied. Nowadays there are many businesses that function with coffee as their main product, including the wholesale providers. This type of business is characterized by the sale of large volumes of coffee; and, to accomplish that task, wholesale providers need to get that much merchandise. Where can they acquire it? In a coffee context, the answer is simple: in companies that work as coffee suppliers, such as That Coffee Roasters.

In general terms, a wholesale provider handles purchasing a product (in this case, roasted coffee beans or ground coffee) from a manufacturer or from another type of business. Their mission is to sell that product to companies or retailers that may either resell the product to end users, or keep it for onsite use.

As you can see, its function is to act as a mediator between the supplier of the product and the market. Isn't it simple? Yet, at a commercial level it is a much more complex transaction that involves more than just money. For being such a competitive field, the wholesale coffee business must consider several factors when starting to trade, and the most important one is the coffee supplier. Why? Because it’s the one that provides the product that will allow them to stay in the market and be recognized for their quality and taste.

Now you know the supplier is an essential element in a coffee business, what comes next is knowing how to choose your own supplier. Do you want to find it out? Keep reading!

How to choose a coffee supplier for a wholesale provider?

Many people think it's only a matter of getting an experienced and well-priced coffee supplier. However, if you want to get a quality product that will guarantee you a long journey in the world of coffee, you need to consider some other steps to finally find it.

Consider your business model and target market

Before making any transaction, you need to take into consideration your objectives, the type of business you manage and the market you will be serving. Will you distribute coffee to retailers or to coffee shops? Who are their regular customers and what kind of coffee would they like? Those are the kind of questions you should ask yourself before looking for a coffee supplier who can meet your needs and the ones of your future customers.

Analyze product quantity

The first question when contacting a supplier is if they can meet the volume of product needed for your business at a competitive price. When you start making these inquiries remember that wholesale prices are lower for large volume purchases, and that many suppliers often have a minimum required product that you must purchase in order to do business with them. It's also necessary to take into consideration the processing times and return policies; ensuring that your merchandise arrives on time and in the best possible condition should be your priority.

If possible, ask for samples

Part of your job as a provider is to know the product you are going to offer. Remember that suppliers can have a wide variety of products, including a variety of blends and specialty coffees, so you should not be afraid to ask for samples to test the type of coffee you could distribute and its quality.

Try to buy local

Today, many customers are interested in backing local suppliers and businesses. In the case of coffee, you can research for coffee roasters near you; for example, if you are in Miami, you can contact That Coffee Roasters, a family-owned coffee company. This feature is an appealing element that you could add to your service proposal when offering your products to all your clients.

When it comes to finding the best supplier, it’s all about the details. Other aspects you may want to consider when looking for a supplier are references of current customers, and other types of services the company may offer. Also remember that it's important to know your product, how it's obtained and where does it come from; as it is up to you to recognize the true value of the quality coffee that will represent your business.

If you still have questions about how to get a good coffee supplier and want to request more information, don’t hesitate to contact That Coffee Roasters. As wholesale coffee vendors, we specialize in supplying a vast quantity of products to providers who want to bring quality service to retailers and end users. Just follow us through our social networks and discover all the services we have to offer!

Coffee Secrets: Building a Successful Coffee Shop

Coffee shop's success depends on the coffee brands
Much of a coffee shop's success will depend on the coffee you choose!

For many people, the taste for coffee is a passion that runs through their veins. As a drink it is probably a fundamental element to start and end your day with energy, it is merely a necessity! And what if you could turn that passion and need into a business? Today, opening a café is the dream of many, but little do they know that this is a fairly competitive market and that to create a successful coffee shop they have to take specific factors into account.

If you want to build a coffee start-up, you must first decide what you are going to offer and how you will do it. You don't necessarily have to follow the patterns set by big business, remember that a real coffee lover will know how to value a quality product.

How to manage a successful coffee shop

It is difficult to identify the key to success; however, there are several tips you can apply to achieve your goals and stay in the coffee market for a long time. Want to know more? Follow the tips of That Coffee Roasters.

Think about the location

Although the area may be an essential element in setting up a coffee shop, the location involves other features that are considered more important. One is the purchase or rental of a local; in the case of renting a space, you should consider whether you prefer a shopping mall or a storefront. The mall can provide significant advantages such as a constant flow of potential customers and easy access to public transportation and cars. However, working in this environment can mean paying more for rent and getting used to the hours imposed by the mall.

In general, purchasing a storefront property could be ideal for this type of business, as it provides visibility and rental prices can be lower. However, you should always keep in mind that customers like easily accessible sites, so the matter of transportation, traffic and parking is an element to consider.

Use an ergonomic approach

Much of your coffee shop’s success will depend on the constant flow of products, so it is necessary that the barista’s workstation is fully functional. An ergonomic approach considers the worker’s relationship with his environment and work team, two elements that must always be considered. In the service area, it is necessary that the barista has his space where all the items he needs are at hand so that he does not have to make many movements. It is also necessary to place this work area near the cash register so that the coffee maker can hear the order and proceed to prepare it earlier.

Create an original and relaxing atmosphere

Creating a unique and comfortable atmosphere are the parameters you must follow when looking for the style of your establishment. The idea and essence must be yours, but you must play a little with what today’s customers are looking for: a comfortable place to meet and drink coffee. Nowadays, many people are just looking for a quiet place where they can have a good cup of coffee while working with their laptops or meeting friends or co-workers, so you must always think about the comfort of the client and mix that idea with your concept to create an original and productive space.

Offer a quality coffee product

The last, but probably most important advice has to do with the quality of the product you offer. The success of this business depends not only on the location, the environment, and the practicality but also on the quality of the beans you use and the coffee you prepare. It's not always about using specialty coffee, but about getting a quality coffee that can meet all your customers' needs. It is also necessary to invest in a good espresso coffee machine that allows you to make the most of the coffee you buy.

Running a successful coffee shop is not easy. However, a few simple considerations can make the difference. In these cases always remember that the customer is also a priority and therefore customer service must be of the highest quality. Also, when it comes to coffee, don't forget to communicate with the best suppliers on the market. At That Coffee Roasters, we offer a variety of high-quality products at a competitive price! So if you need anything, don't hesitate to contact us through our social networks or visit our facilities.

The First Coffee Bean of All

First coffee bean of all
All of the different types of coffee beans have a common ancestor. We've prepared an article with information that traces the origins of them all.

Nowadays, coffee is such a basic commodity that it is hard to imagine a time when it was not one of the most consumed beverages in the world. Unbelievable, right? To get to where it is today, it has had to travel a long historical road. Its origins may be a bit mysterious, so tracking down the first cultivated coffee bean is not an easy task. However, there are several stories about the discovery of coffee and its properties, which later led to the spread of this important bean.

The stories behind the first coffee beans

The journey of the coffee bean and the acquisition of the taste for the products based on it, has been long. For example, it was not until the 13th century that beans began to be roasted by the Muslim community that used their properties as a stimulant in the long hours of prayer. Muslims managed to maintain a monopoly on coffee, and it was only between 1500 and 1600 that the coffee plant left Africa to spread around the world. It is said that Baba Budan, an Indian pilgrim, was the one who achieved that feat by leaving Mecca with fertile beans fastened to a strap across his abdomen.

Whatever the true story behind the first coffee bean outside Africa, the reality is that it was the Dutch who set up the first coffee farm, and it is from that moment onwards that the coffee market reaches all regions of the world, including America and Asia. After all these events, coffee gained more and more followers, and several coffee houses were opened all over Europe.

In short, the success of coffee has been historical! But where did it come from? Where did the passion for coffee beans and their properties start? One of the best-known stories refers to an Ethiopian goat herder of the 9th century named Kaldi, who after seeing that his goat was full of vitality and energy when eating the red fruits of a bush, decided to try these red berries himself.

Once Kaldi experienced the effects of the stimulants, he decided to take the fruits to a monk in a monastery that eventually threw them into the fire, generating a toasted smell. After that, the monks of that community began to roast the beans and grind them to mix them with water to produce an exceptional drink.

Another theory places the discovery of the properties of coffee beans in the hands of a Yemenite Sufi mystic called Ghothul Akbar Nooruddin Abu al-Hasan ash-Shadhili. This character would have traveled to Ethiopia and spotted birds with a lot of vitality. Seeing the fruit these animals ate, he decided to taste them too, discovering the properties that they possessed.

Finally, the latest story about the discovery of coffee refers to Omar, an Abu al-Hasan ash-Shadhili disciple, who was recognized for his ability to heal through prayer. One day he was exiled from Mocha to a desert cave and to avoid starvation he decided to try the red fruit of a tree, but it tasted very bitter. Then he tried to roast it, but it was tough; finally, he put those roasted beans to boil in water and discovered a stimulating drink that helped him survive. After the episode of the miracle drug, Omar was called back to the city.

In the end, the story of the first coffee bean may be a mystery. However, uncovered evidence indicates that knowledge about coffee and its properties may date back to the 15th century in Yemen.
