This is certainly a combination you didn't expect, but the result is worth it. To prepare this drink, you need 200 ml of freshly brewed coffee, 2 oranges, icing sugar and whipped cream. First, you must grate the peel of the oranges and squeeze the juice. Then, in a pot add the peel, icing sugar, and a glass of water, and let the mixture boil for 5 minutes to form a syrup.

Separately, mix the coffee with the orange juice and add the syrup. Finally, serve the drink in a glass or cup with ice, and top it with whipped cream. You can decorate with crushed crackers and chopped nuts.

A blend of coffee and mint

If you thought the exotic blends were over, you're wrong. This recipe will definitely refresh and sweeten your day with all its ingredients. To enjoy this drink, you need 150 ml of freshly brewed coffee, 100g of bitter chocolate, mint liqueur, and vanilla ice cream.

First, you must melt the chocolate in the hot coffee and let it cool. Then add the mint liqueur (you can also use mint syrup) and mix well. Finally, add the mixture into a glass with ice and top it with ice cream. You can also garnish with chocolate shavings or nuts.

Cold Mochaccino

This is the icy version of a classic coffee style. To make this mochaccino, you need 1 cup of strong coffee, 1 cup of ice, 1/2 cup of milk, 4 tablespoons of sugar (or the amount needed to suit your taste), 2 tablespoons of chocolate powder, 1 tablespoon of vanilla, and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder.

The preparation is quite simple, just add all the ingredients in the blender and mix until you get a drink more icy than liquid. Finally, just pour the mix into a glass and garnish with whipped cream and other toppings of your choice.

Coffee Science: Cold Brews and Iced Coffee

Cold brews and iced coffee
Cold brews and iced coffees are two of the best alternatives when it comes to finding a sort of change of pace. Learn all about them with That Coffee Roasters!

Coffee is one of the most versatile products available today. It is often used as an ingredient in recipes, homemade cosmetics, and industrial beauty products. Its value as a caffeinated or decaffeinated beverage for all types of customers also increases as different presentations come on the market, among which are cold coffee drinks that everyone knows exist, but do not know how to distinguish them. In today's blog, That Coffee Roasters invites you to finally learn the difference between these two types of tasty caffeinated drinks

Knowing the difference between cold brew coffee and iced coffee

This time it is not really about choosing one of the two types of coffee drinks, but about recognizing that there is a difference between them. Believe it or not, they are not the same type of beverage, and each one has different characteristics regarding its preparation. Want to know more? Keep reading!

What is a cold brew?

Cold brews are referred to as beverages brewed in cold or room temperature water. As you know, the coffee-making process is characterized by using hot water to prepare your cup of Joe. However, in this new era of inventions and good ideas, cold and coffee were mixed to create a unique presentation with a particular flavor: the cold brewed coffee.

In this case, the preparation consists of submerging ground coffee beans in cold water or at room temperature for 12 to 24 hours. This is a long process, but it results in a product with less bitterness and acidity than your typical hot coffee, as it oxidizes for a longer period.

You thought you could only make coffee with hot water, right? Now you know that everything is possible in the coffee world!

Understanding the iced coffee art

Now you know that cold brew isn’t just cold coffee in a glass, but what about iced coffee? You probably think that this type of drink is nothing more than coffee on the rocks, a mixture that usually results in a watery liquid with a slight coffee flavor.

The reality is that in its beginnings the iced coffee was basically that, hot coffee served on ice which was then delivered to customers. As the taste of this mixture is usually very diluted, some coffee experts have developed a new technique to present it in a better way.

Nowadays, baristas make a double batch of coffee, using double the amount of coffee grounds, or brew double strength coffee. Once the coffee is ready, they let it cool first and then add it to the ice. In this way, you get a less diluted coffee with a stronger flavor.

Each presentation has its science, the use of hot and cold water offers variations of flavors that can be attractive to all types of diners. In the end, it is not a question of which one is better, but of the customer's preference.

The only factor that determines the quality of these presentations? The type of coffee you use. Regardless of which beverage is your favorite, the determining element is the brand of coffee you use. That's why you should always choose the best coffee distributors on the market, such as That Coffee Roasters. I’ll Have It Cold: The Best Ways To Prepare Cold-Brewed Coffee

Don't let winter stop you from trying these fantastic recipes!

Before we start today’s article, let us ask you a question: is iced coffee the same thing as a cold-brewed coffee? If your answer is yes, then keep reading! You’re about to be surprised by how different making cold-brewed coffee can be. If your answer is no, then you’re definitely one of us!  Stick with us if you love your coffee cold and rich in flavors. We’re here to explore the best recipes to make cold-brewed coffee right at home.

First, let’s clarify a little bit why both types are different. Basically, iced coffee is coffee that was brewed hot and was cooled afterward, either by letting it sit in the fridge for a while or by adding ice to the beverage. If you’ve read our articles before, you know that coffee tastes exceptionally better when it’s drunk fresh and just-brewed. That's because it gets stale very fast. So when you have iced coffee, your drink is bound to be more acidic. It will also get watered down quite rapidly if you used ice.

However, when we talk about cold-brewed coffee, we’re referring to coffee that was cooled up before it was brewed. You can do this by keeping your coffee grounds at lower temperatures by soaking it in water. When they’re cold enough, you can just simply prepare your beverage, and you’ll find that the final result will be a richer coffee whose flavors will be deliciously enhanced.  Let’s look at some of them and try with different recipes!

Classic cold-brewed coffee
This one will be the basis of all other recipes. There are many ways to make cold-brewed coffee at home, so you can always try different alternatives to see which one gives you better results. One thing you will need is extra coarse coffee grounds (the fresher they’ve been roasted, the better). If you don’t have a cold-brewing machine, then a French press will suit you just fine. Soak ⅔ cups of coffee in three cups of water for 12 hours. Then simply use the plunger to push all grounds to the bottom, and that’s it! When you serve it, remember to dilute it using a 1:1 coffee and water ratio.

Cocobrew

Finding anything more refreshing than coconut water is hard. That makes it perfect to try with a cold-brewed coffee recipe. Just mix your cold-brewed coffee with a double amount of coconut water, drop in a few ice cubes, and stir. Coconut with coffee might sound like an odd combination, but it tastes delicious when your coffee is cold. The decidedly sweet and smooth character of cold-brewed coffee is a perfect foundation for coconut to expand upon.

Vanilla almond swirl

If you’re all for sweet beverages, then this one’s definitely worth trying. All you need is almond milk, 2-3 drops of vanilla extract, a pinch of cinnamon, and ice. Mix it all with 50-100 ml of cold-brewed coffee. You’ll find a source of the most delicious aromas! Sprinkle cinnamon on the top but remember not to add too much of anything. The cold-brewed coffee is still your main ingredient.

Cold-brewed mocha

Some of us can’t help adding chocolate to almost everything we consume, and with a good dark roast, the temptation to prepare a cold-brewed mocha is just too irresistible to let it pass. All you’ll need is ½ cup of cacao grounds, 3 cups of water, and ¼ cup of coarse ground coffee. Combine all ingredients and let it sit overnight. Strain and serve over ice. To make it even sweeter, add milk or cream!

Which one of these recipes are you going to try? Experiment with different ingredients to bring all refreshing and flavorful qualities of cold-brewed coffees!
