The Coffee Compass: How to Use It Properly

Guide your taste buds towards the ideal taste in your cup of coffee.

Generally, when brewing from home, people avoid following recipes and proportions. This happens for two basic reasons: lack of knowledge or being in a hurry to get to work. Lack of measurements might not show at first, but then you ask for a cup of coffee in a café and definitely tell a notable difference.
Of course, baristas are professionals in the art of brew, but does that mean you can’t make a cup of coffee taste as good as that one you just had? The answer is yes, sure you can! And thanks to the Barista Hustle, there’s a solution to improve your brewing skills: The Coffee Compass, a simple yet accurate solution to guide you into making coffee.
A journey to the ideal brew
The first thing you must do is to check the Coffee Compass (again, credits to Barista Hustle for this), and read it through.
Also, keep in mind this guide is for brewed coffee. So, the compass goes like this: brew the coffee of your choice and taste it, then identify specific characteristics about it on the left map. The purpose of this is to know where your coffee stands in order to get it to the center.
Let’s give you an example: after brewing, you taste your coffee, and the taste seems a little watery or rather insipid. What to do then? The solution to getting to the center would be to extract more and add more coffee. An extra tip would be to grind your coffee to a finer setting.
On a final note, try to practice this method and learn about each of the flavors coffee can show (and taste as many coffees as necessary, for that matter). With that in mind, you can hone your skills and start making your brews more efficiently. At first, it will be hard (especially identifying each flavor), but you will get used to it.
Finding the center in the coffee can be as challenging as finding the right products in the industry. But we believe that if you contact That Coffee Roasters, your worries are likely to become a blurry memory. Contact them and see what’s waiting for you!
This compass doesn't work like the typical one. You must make your way to the center instead.
