Coffee Words from A to Z

Many terminologies in the coffee world are not well understood.
Perhaps you came across an article about coffee while browsing on the internet, and before you knew it, your whole explorer was filled with the topic. This is where you as a coffee enthusiast might get confused with the many terminologies and terms used in the industry. But do not worry, today we’ll solve that.
The world of coffee isn’t that complex to understand, but it requires research and passion for what you’re about to get into. Knowledge and passion characterize That Coffee Roasters’ work, which is why here’s their list of words and terminologies of the coffee world.

Coffee words

Affogato: A preparation of vanilla ice cream added to a shot of espresso.
American Roast: Term given to the traditional medium brown roast Americans typically enjoy.
Americano: A shot of espresso that is diluted with hot water.
Barista: Professional in the serving of coffee at bars.
Chemex: An hourglass-shaped coffee brewer. Because of the density of Chemex filters, the taste of the coffee tends to be sweeter.
Cold Drip Coffee: A process where coffee grounds are steeped in cold water for half a day. The result of this drip is generally used for iced coffee.
Cupping: Tasting method professional tasters use to determine the quality of the grounds.
Direct Trade: The action of buying directly from farms instead of brokers. Most coffee roasters have found the quality is better from doing so.
Fair Trade: This is an established program that ensures farmers or coffee growers that they are paid a minimum salary or price for processing coffee.
Typica: A variety of the Arabica Coffee. Typica is one of the oldest of the varieties of coffee, originated from the Yemeni stock.
Varietal Coffee: A term that describes unblended coffee from a single source, country, region, and crop. This means the coffee is originated from a single botanical variety of coffee tree, as well. “Single origin” instead of the varietal is also used to describe this type of coffee.
If we were to put all the words that relate to this industry, we’d have to make a book out of it. This is why we made a list of some typical and uncommon words used in the language of coffee. Hopefully, this will shed some light for future readings.
